WOULD THERE BE ANOTHER WAR IN THE MIDDLE EAST?
--- by Isaac Ho, the Adminstrator
Late last year, President Obama announced to the Americans and the citizens of the world via media network that a special U.S. force had killed the much sought after "international terrorist," Osama bin Laden, at a military stronghold in Pakistan.
And that his remains had been desposed in an unmarked watery grave in the Arabian Sea....!
From the beginning to the end of the Korean War (1950-1953), the Vietnam War, the military confrontations in the once Soviet-dominated East European States, the Iraqi War and last but not the least, the Afghanistan War...thousands of young American GIs had perished in the fight for "freedom and democracy" in these regions.
Then back home in United States, war memorials had been erected, visited and prayed on in loving memory of those American soldiers who perished in defense of "global freedom."
To borrow the saying of the famous American four-star general, George S. Patton who said in the spectacular Hollywood buster: PATTON, in which he was portrayed by Actor George C. Scott in front of the huge American flag: Said he: "Let does dump bastards die for their country...!" He was referring to the Nazis who were U.S. greatest enemy during Second World War in occupied Europe.
Now thousands of American "dumb bastards", the young American young men and women and those of their allies, have indeed died for their country and returned sadly in body bags.
While in those countries in which United States military and its allies have occupied and operated actively to flush out the common enemies, thousands upon unaccounted thousands of innocent and unarmed civilians of Koreans, Vietnamese, East Europeans, Iraqis and Afghans had also perished through no fault of their own, save being caught in the cross-fire.
Who cries or mourns or remember these war-ravaged civilians under the operative powers of the United States armies?
Who will sing the songs of lamentation for these perhaps more than a few millions of war-torn and nameless victims affected by those unwinnable wars perpetrated by the military of the United States and its Coalition of Willing forces?
Now, in the volatile Middle East, the rumours of war are already traversing among the silent sands and dunes of the deserts and upon the surrounding waters as well...
Will the United States and its European Union allies which are currently persuing a course of confrontation with Iran, an aspiring nuclear state, go to war within the foreseeable future?
Will the United Nations Security Council be pressured one or another to accede to the request of U.S. and its military coalition to wage another Middle East war to punish "wayward" Iran?
Let's hope this looming military confrontation with the help of Russia and China will not allow it to happen. If it does happen, then the world will have to experience another rise in oil prices which in turn would affect the prices of everyday cosumer goods and which would ultimately affect drastically the poor nations of Africa and Asia.
Let Obama reflects upon the time when he was "awarded" the Nobel Peace Prize and whether he would once again persue a course of peace or bent on starting a war in the Middle East!
Is Obama really a man of peace or a man who believes in naked aggression to win points for another term in the White House?
For the price of another war would have to be borne ultimately by ordinary Americans who are now finding it increasing hard to earn a decent living, or own a home or even hold on to their present jobs...while the military as well as the military complex are actively spending their hard-earned money to fight another useless and unnecessary, unwinnable war in which billions of dollars could have been wisely spent to help the American people at the grassroots level.
Either peace or on another war path, the American people must come forward to tell their president Obama.
In conclusion, simple economics will dictate that another costly war in the Middle East will put further strain on the indebtness of both the United States and European Union - and they are struggling to maintain their national treasuries from a large financial crunch!!!
