THE TOWER OF SILENCE

The Malabar Hill, Mumbai, India is the place where the Parsis intern the dead by placing a corpse high above their Tower of Silence or Dakhma.
The Parsis are the descendants of the Persians who came to India and their religion is fire-worship or Zoroastrianism.
A dead body of a deceased Parsis, an adult is carefully place inside the tower in question and expose to the sky and is expected that the vultures will fly down
and feed on the flesh, and after which the remain bones or skeleton is eventually swept into the central hole of the tower.
A female body is also place in the second tier of the tower and likewise would eventually be eaten by the vultures and the bones will be dispose off in the
circular structure of the tower.
Same is done to a child in the third tier of the tower to be given to the vultures.
But there is however a problem now in that the vultures are mysteriously dying and there is insufficient birds to feed on the dead bodies.
The reason being that these vultures also feed on cattle carcases in which when alive the cow is injected with a painkiller which lodge in its body and
when the vultures swoop down to eat the carcass the painkiller inside would eventually kill the vultures which the Parsis depended on to dispose of their dead.
For more information on the Parsis practice of disposing of their dead, please click on the below url:

This is a very interesting subject to study and if you want to persue the matter further, you may go to the YouTube concerning the video presentation of the
Parsis's strange burial practice of their Dakhma (Persian name) or Tower of Silence in India.
Thank you.
