ARE PEOPLE HUNTING 'CANNED LIONS' IN SOUTH AFRICA?

The BBC World News has ran this bold headline in its printed column dated September 8, 2016, the writer as he wrote
asked readers whether people are hunting 'canned lions' in South Africa?.
Journalists, photographers and commentators have been visiting the so-called "farms" in South Africa where young lions are
specially bred to feed the growing demand by foreigners (from United States) who are trigger-happy to pay thousands of
American dollars just to shoot the innocent fully grown lions, males and females included - then bravely post the photograph
in front of the dead animal for posterity and cut off the animal's head to be mounted as a trophy and take it back home to show
his folks of how brave and daring he has been to confront and kill such a ferrous beast as the lion and thereby obtain the trophy
mounted on a plague and hung proud in his living room just to show admirers of his hunting skills in South Africa in the past...!!!
But what about those innocent lions who do not know that human beings are determined to kill them after they are selected
and let loose for several minutes in the wilds and while a hunting vehicle with a local guide is nearby with the 'lion murderer'
getting ready with his rifle to aim at the farm-bred lion, take careful aim in his rifle-scope and then shoot it. And most of the
time, it might take minutes before this lion murderer could proper shoot the animal as it started to react with the bullet in its
body, trying desperately but in vain, to dislodge the bullet...jumping frantically up and down...as it is badly hurt before another
bullet would slam on its body to kill it.
Such action on the part of the lion murderer is condemnable to say least...this is the most cruel method to obtain a trophy in
order to justify his bragging when he gets home...safe and sound...and satisfactorily spending thousands of American dollars.
Such lion farms in South Africa should be banned and closed down by the government as globally such practices are unproductive
and will not contribute to being passionate and kind to innocent animals - be they lions, leopards or other beasts out in the plains
and wilds of South Africa. International wildlife organizations ought to step in surely and positively to tell the South African
authorities to close down such farms once and for all.
Western countries should ban the import of lion and leopards trophies coming from African countries. Such murderers of
large cats should be fined heavily from bring in such trophies which should strictly be enforced with heavy fines and even
jail terms just to discourage the hunting of lions and leopards as they are a dwindling source out in their homeland.
