THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF CECIL THE ZIMBABWE LION

The BBC World News has reported that Cecil the favourite Zimbabwe lion was lured out of a game reserve and killed as a trophy!

It is now established as a fact that Cecil was "tricked" or "baited" with a dead animal so that he would leave his sanctuary

and then he was first summarily shot with bow and arrows and then after days of agony was finally shot to death by a trophy

hunter, a notorious "jackass" from the United States.

Mr. Walter Palmer, a registered dentist in the States was said to have despatched  Cecil the popular Zimbabwe Lion with the aid

of a local guide and a white hunter.

Although Palmer has fled the country but the two others with him were detained by Zimbabwe authorities and there is a warrant

out by the local police for Palmer to be apprehended too!!!

His office in the States was overwhelmed and besieged by angry pet owners and nature conservationists who had a soft spot

for big cats, especially Cecil the now famous Zimbabwe lion as vs. the notorious Dentist Palmer which was compelled to

close his office and  to issue a notice to his patients to go elsewhere for their dental  treatments.

The U.S. authorities are looking for Palmer as he has skipped angry public attention and closed his office in a hurry.

If Palmer is a gentleman, he should appear to the public and formally apologize to both the local people in the States, the

people of Zimbabwe and as well as people all over this planet who like to protect big cats, especially lions and tigers.

An official estimate has put about 35,000 lions left in the wild in the whole of Africa and they are constantly in  danger of being

hunted and poached for their trophies.

This cruel act of killing the noble beast - a magnificent lion -  is totally wanton - unacceptable and intolerable.

He or she who wantonly killed this animal should be brought to justice to face the dire mistake...!!!

Latest news development on the killing of Cecil the Zimbabwean Lion...

"Zimbabwean authorities have said they will seek the extradition of Minnesota dentist Walter James Palmer,
alleging he lack authorization to kill Cecil."

"The lion was lured out of Hwange Park, wounded with a bow and arrows and then tracked down and shot,
conservationists said..."

In my opinion as a nature conservationist, justice must be sought for the killing of Cecil the Zimbabwean

lion and that the merciless and wanton killer (Palmer) if found guilty by the due process of local law should

be sentenced to jail indefinitely and with the jail cell keys thrown away for good. No parole should be

allowed! This will act as a deterrent to would-be killers of the diminishing African wildlife.

It appears to me that Cecil, the Zimbabwean Lion is a real icon to the natives of that country.
There is apparently a helpful suggestion to have Cecil's head preserved, mounted and shown to both locals
as well as foreign tourists to this country.
And there is also an indication of the relevant Zimbabwean authorities to sought and extradict Cecil's killer
back to the country to face justice.
It is no use denying that Cecil was paid for prior to it being killed...don't negotiate through the media,
if Palmer has the courage, he should volunteer to return to Zimbabwe and explain to the judges of his
actions to bring down Cecil. Come on Palmer, if you have that "courage" to kill Cecil, where is your
courage now to come forward to Zimbabwe to tell what you actually did to despatch the innocent lion Cecil.
How long can you hide, Palmer, from the anger of naturalists everywhere from your country to the rest of the
world. Stop acting like a coward now and face the music as a wildlife hunter, Palmer...!!!
